Upstairs Gallery

Available Local Art
An array of local talent

A Petoskey Original

Featuring the work of about 40 artists, the upstairs gallery is the go-to for anyone who wants to check out local Michigan art, Michigan-themed creativity, or even handmade wooden furniture. Housed on the upstairs level of NorthGoods, this gallery is certainly one of a kind, featuring artists from Petoskey and greater Michigan, in a multitude of media. These mediums include oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, photography, and sculpture. Work at all different price points are available upstairs, proving that great art doesn’t have to break the bank. If you’re looking for something specific and don’t see it in our gallery, don’t worry! Many of our artists are more than happy to meet with you and create a specially commissioned piece. As well as the extensive amount of prints in our print racks, single run prints are available for many works upon request, so don’t hesitate to ask.

Highlighting Local Talent

A few of our favorite artists have had prolific careers in terms of scenic paintings of flora and fauna, which can be seen in the photo to the right. Water views and rolling hills seem to be a local favorite, as well as scenes of life downtown. While finding the perfect painting for your home can be an amazing experience, something just as incredible is speaking to the artist in person! That’s why the staff at NorthGoods is excited to host artists during downtown events all throughout the summer, plus on select weekends in the fall. During these events you will be able to see artists create their one of a kind paintings, drawings, woodworking, and even jewelry! All of these items are available for purchase in-store, so don’t be shy to ask for something that really strikes you. Check out our Facebook page all summer long to keep updated on which artist will be doing an in-store demonstration next!

Artist Inquiries

Currently, the gallery features mainly paintings in watercolor, acrylic and oil media, ceramic, raku, photography, and pastel works. However, we are always looking to expand the expression of the Up North through art! If you are an artist interested in showing in our gallery, please direct any questions to our gallery manager through the Contact Us page. While we are more than willing to look at and critique any form of work, it is suggested that you only direct inquiries about artwork related to Michigan in some shape or form. Tangible works (prints of your work to leave for the staff to consider or the pieces themselves) are preferred, although digital portfolios will be considered as well. We are currently seeking pieces that fall below 4′ x 4′, due to constraints of gallery size.

Art As Community and Beyond

As part of the Northern Michigan art community, we at NorthGoods strive toward creating a greater understanding of what art is and why we are drawn to it, in the context of one-of-a-kind Petoskey-themed pieces. We are open for the summer Gallery Walk, and year round to allow art appreciation for locals as well as tourists. Whether you’re wanting to fill an empty space on a wall, give a phenomenal gift, or just appreciating all that Petoskey has to offer, the upstairs gallery at NorthGoods has it all! Our associates are more than willing to answer questions about the art and artists featured, as well as field any questions about custom made portraits and frames. Our gallery is constantly changing, so stop in soon!
